Council to weigh radio fees, SCADA upgrade, and new supervisor role on Wednesday

City of Orting agenda packet · October 14, 2026

A preview of the Wednesday, October 14 meeting from the city's agenda packet. Nothing here has been decided yet.

The short version: Council will hear about a new combined supervisor role for Public Works, continue 2027 budget discussions, and vote on a major telemetry system upgrade and radio fee agreement.

Up for a vote

  • SCADA Telemetry Master Plan and Design: The city is modernizing its water, wastewater, and stormwater monitoring systems. Council is set to vote on approving the master plan and design work for $292,730.
  • Pierce County Radio Fees: The county is invoicing the city $42,000 annually to use the Pierce County 700MHz radio network. Council will decide whether to pay this fee or continue declining payment based on the city's position that Proposition 1 tax funds should cover these costs.

Discussion and presentations

  • Stormwater & Maintenance Supervisor Position: Public Works is proposing to combine the vacant Stormwater Supervisor role with Maintenance supervision. The position would expand responsibilities and include a 12% wage increase to $132,563 annually.
  • 2027 Budget Discussion: Finance Director will continue the budget conversation following a workshop held earlier this month.
  • 2027 Revenue Sources: A public hearing will be held on how the city plans to fund next year's budget.

Routine business

  • Council will consider approving claims vouchers totaling $601,311.42, payroll of $294,377.85, and meeting minutes from recent sessions.
