New homes and buildings in the City of Orting added $17,303,800 in taxable value to the property rolls in 2026, according to figures released Sept. 22 by the Pierce County Assessor-Treasurer.
Countywide, taxable new construction held steady at about $2.5 billion, the same as 2025. Unincorporated Pierce County, which includes the neighborhoods just outside Orting, accounted for about $1.36 billion. Among nearby cities, Sumner added $213 million, Buckley $55.9 million and Bonney Lake $22.6 million.
Why it matters: state law caps how much a local government's regular property-tax collections can grow each year at 1%, but new construction is exempt from that cap. The Assessor-Treasurer calls it a critical source of new funding for local services like schools, public safety, parks and roads.
